ABOUT THE ROLE: We are looking for a Backend Developer to join Preply in a Full-time Remote position. In this role, you will architect and develop scalable backend services powering millions of tutor-student interactions on a global tutoring platform. You will design high-performance APIs, optimize database queries, and implement real-time communication protocols. WHAT YOU WILL DO: • Design, develop, and optimize RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Python (FastAPI, Django) or Node.js (Express, NestJS). • Implement complex database architectures (PostgreSQL, MongoDB), optimize queries, and manage data consistency. • Build real-time features using WebSockets and message queues (Redis, RabbitMQ). • Collaborate with product and mobile teams to define API specifications and technical requirements. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: • 6+ years of backend development experience. • Deep expertise in Python or Node.js, relational and NoSQL databases, and microservices architecture. • Must-have: Experience building product-grade backend systems in startups or established tech companies with millions of users, with strong focus on code quality, testing, and system reliability. CANDIDATE PROFILE: • Looking for technically rigorous engineers who care about system design. • Candidates should have demonstrated backend expertise and responsibility. • Residing in or remote from Ukraine. • Experience from companies like Uber, Airbnb, Stripe, Intercom, or similar platform companies is highly valued, as candidates from these backgrounds understand how to build scalable systems that handle high load and complex user interactions.
